Our plans for Rotterdam
When are the next elections?
Do you want to live in a city that is affordable, safe and green? Do you love Rotterdam and its diversity? If you do: vote on the 18th of March 2026 for GroenLinks-PvdA. On the 18th of March 2026, local elections will be held throughout the Netherlands. On that day, everyone who lives in Rotterdam gets to decide what kind of city they want to live in. Most non-Dutch residents are allowed to vote for a new local council.
Am I eligible to vote?
Non-Dutch nationals who are of age (18 or over) and who have been living in the Netherlands consecutively for the past 5 years (with a residence permit) are allowed to vote in municipal elections. Citizens of European Union (EU) member states can vote in municipal council and European Parliament elections immediately upon moving to the Netherlands. You must be registered with the municipality by January 31, 2026.
How can I vote?
At least 14 days before the election, all eligible voters automatically receive a personal voting pass (stempas) in the mail. Take this pass and a valid ID to any polling station within Rotterdam to vote on the day of the election. A passport, residence permit or driver’s license counts as a valid proof of ID.
Do I need to register to vote?
No. If you meet the eligibility requirements listed above you are automatically registered to vote.
WE LOVE ROTTERDAM!
AND BECAUSE OF THAT:
A CITY YOU CAN AFFORD
Rotterdam should be a city where life is affordable for everyone. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Rotterdam is becoming increasingly expensive. Too many high-rise housing towers are being built that people can’t afford. This needs to change.
We will build affordable homes and insulate houses to lower energy bills.
We will make bus, tram, and metro tickets cheaper.
We will ensure that every child can play sports, learn to swim, and take music lessons.
Making the city affordable again is a top priority for GroenLinks-PvdA.
SAFE STREETS FOR EVERYONE
In Rotterdam, everyone should feel safe in public spaces, including women and children. GroenLinks-PvdA will make the city safer by investing in places where people meet, such as community centers and playgrounds.
We support people who create stronger and safer communities.
We will put an end to homelessness and drug-related nuisance.
In addition, we will invest in traffic safety, stronger enforcement against street harassment, and visible neighborhood police officers.
GREEN AND CLEAN NEIGHBORHOODS
Rotterdam is at its best with green and clean neighborhoods. GroenLinks-PvdA lets neighborhoods breathe by adding more trees, plants, and flowers.
We protect the green spaces that already exist and bring more nature to neighborhoods dominated by concrete and asphalt.
We will also work towards cleaner, tidier neighborhoods by promptly removing street waste.
A green city also means a clean port. That’s why we’re launching a strong port investment plan. Creating new, green jobs.
